Applying Vinyl Graphics to Surfaces Print E-mail

Applying Your vinyl lettering and graphics to walls, doors, and windows

Surface Preparation

Before you stick your graphic lettering to your surfaces, be sure to wash the surface thoroughly with a household cleanser such as windex or 409. Walls not prepped properly will keep the lettering from adhering to the surfaces properly. Your surface must be clean and dry.

Prepare Graphics

Some graphics will come in rolls because of length, others will come flat. For those that are rolled up, unwrap the graphic, unroll and let sit flat til it stops rolling itself up.

Our graphics come with a "transfer tape" (the opaque tape on top of your letters) on one side and "backing paper" (white and shiny) on the other. Before peeling "backing paper" off , rub the surface of "transfer tape" with a squeegee to ensure the lettering or graphic is adhering solidly to the "transfer tape".

Applying Your Vinyl Lettering and Graphics

Mark applying graphics to wall surface

Attach your graphics (all 3 layers together) to the surface along the top edge with masking or painter’s tape. Use enough tape so that it will stay put while you check to see if it is level. Use a level along the bottom edge of a line of text or graphic (do not use the edge of the paper since that may not be lever to the graphics) to verify that it is level on the wall. If you need to, make adjustments now to see that the lettering is level.

You can also measure the distance from the words to the ceiling by using a tape measure along the top line of letters or graphic. When graphics are taped and aligned properly to your surface along the top edge, flip the graphic up, using the tape as a hinge.

Carefully peel off the "backing paper" (waxy paper). The graphics should stay adhered to the "transfer tape", (if they are sticking to your backing paper, flip them back down and rub your graphics to readhere them to the "transfer tape"). Sometimes you have to rub some letters and graphics more than others. Once backing paper is removed from the graphics or lettering, lay them back down against your surface.

Securing Your Graphics to the Surface

Using your squeegee on top of the "transfer tape", rub your graphics onto your wall. Carefully work the surface to remove any air bubbles from beneath the graphics. Using the squeegee again, apply more pressure over the entire area of the graphics.

Transfer Tape Removal

Carefully peel back the "transfer tape" at a 45° angle. This will leave the graphic adhered to your wall. Be careful not to peel the backing away too quickly. This can sometimes be a slow process. Graphics may want to stick to the tape instead of the wall.

If this is the case, use your squeegee and re-rub the graphics till they adhere properly to the wall. If you have a long graphic, cut away transfer tape that is already removed so that it doesn’t interfere with your application process.

Now enjoy the look of sophistication and elegance.
